Donald J. As Trump was escorted in a motorcade from his Florida estate to a flight to New York, Mayor Eric Adams said Mr. He warned Trump’s supporters to behave at demonstrations and rallies.
Mayor Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican who is Mr. Trump has used apocalyptic rhetoric in his defense, and he plans to rally against the former president near the lower Manhattan courthouse on Tuesday.
“While we don’t have any specific threats, people like Marjorie Taylor Green, who is known for spreading misinformation and hate speech, said she’s coming to town. When you’re in town, be on your best behavior,” Mr. Adams said Monday at an afternoon news conference at City Hall.
Ms Green has promoted a demonstration planned for Tuesday with internet conspiracy theorist Jack Bozobeek and right-wing commentator Graham Allen.
While Mayor and Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said officers had received no specific threats, the city was bracing itself for protests and plans to close streets and block demonstrators. All uniformed officers have been alerted.
“There may be some hooligans who want to come to our city tomorrow, our message is clear and simple: control yourself,” said Mr. Adams said. “New York is our home, not the place for your misguided anger.”
The first US president to be impeached, Mr. Trump is expected to arrive in Manhattan on Monday as he prepares to turn himself in to authorities on Tuesday.
He is expected to spend the night at Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue before traveling to Lower Manhattan on Tuesday to surrender to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office and later appear at the Manhattan Criminal Court Building.
Mr. Mr. Trump said the police department is ready to handle Trump’s two-day visit, no matter what. Adams assured the New Yorkers. He asked residents to go about their normal routines.
“New York City is always ready,” he said.
