American League Championship Series in Cleveland with the New York Yankees up 2-0 over the Cleveland Guardians Giancarlo Stanton and Juan Soto both hit home runs in a 5-2 Game 1 victory, then Aaron Judge went deep in Game 2 of New York’s 6-3 victory. . The Yankees haven’t reached the World Series since 2009, and they’re halfway to their 41st AL pennant in the 2024 ALCS.

With the streak now in the Midwest, the Guardians have a chance to regain the streak at home, where they’ve played well all year.   • Tim Herrin was one strike away from ending the inning after John Bertie’s double wiped out a leadoff walk, but Anthony Volpe extended the inning with a double. Alex Verdugo will try to bring him in now.

  • Quan was grounded out to end the inning. With the Yankees needing two more runs over the next three innings, Tim Herrin (dominant Guardians reliever No. 2) replaces Kate Smith.
