A wildfire that started Saturday in Salem has burned about 130 acres. The fire is spreading as tourists flock to Salem this week for Halloween events.
The fire caused no damage to the festivities, but the smoke billowing from the north bank was billowing for miles.

The National Weather Service in Boston asked followers Social media Monday morning in southern New England, “Woke up to the smell of smoke this morning, SNE?”

Salem, Peabody, Lynn brush fire
Salem Fire Chief Alan Dion said the terrain between Salem, Peabody and Lynn is very remote and rocky, making it difficult to fight the fire.
Many local and state agencies are now using helicopter water drops and drones to identify severe burns and put out flames.
“It’s a lot of acres and it’s a tough part to get to,” Dion told WBZ-TV Sunday. “It’s one of those fires that has been smoldering for a long time. It smolders overnight and in the morning when there’s fresh air and wind, especially when there’s a change in wind, it can reignite.”
Dion said most of what they’ll see Monday from the brush fire will be “into the woods.”
Middleton brush fire
No one was injured and no homes or businesses were reported damaged in the fire in Middleton, about 10 miles northwest of Salem.
The Middleton Fire Department said 50 acres There the land was burnt.

A brush fire spread as far south as Rehoboth on Sunday. A firefighter there was taken to the hospital due to the heat, but is expected to be OK WPRI-TV.
