Dean’s Family – NBC 7 San Diego

Military installations are supposed to be safe, so why was a missing 14-year-old girl with learning disabilities found at a camp at Camp Pendleton?

That’s the question many are asking after learning a Spring Valley teenager was found on an ocean floor miles from home two weeks after she disappeared.

A fleet with 1St Logistics Marine Group was investigated, but no arrests were made in the case being investigated by NCIS.

NBC 7’s Dave Summer broke down the details of the investigation.

The girl’s aunt told NBC 7 in a Monday interview that she was concerned the Marines might be trying to cover up criminal behavior.

“It’s very frustrating,” Cassandra Perez said. “Especially since NCIS hasn’t shared any information with us.”

Perez told NBC 7 that some people working on the site are “leaking” information through social media posts, which could harm the case. “Now it sounds more like they’re trying to control the narrative that they did nothing wrong.”

Perez said she worries investigators will try to pin the blame on her daughter-in-law. She doesn’t buy it.

“It’s illegal no matter how you put it. The age of consent in California is 18. Something’s not right,” he added.

Perez called the Marines to the base and challenged them to come forward with the truth.

“Please hold your fellow service members accountable. Please be the hero you signed up to be,” she pleaded.

Perez said he could not discuss the facts of the case right now, but said, “It’s something that no one could have imagined.”
