As of Saturday evening (PT), a large number of Android users are seeing the Google app crashing repeatedly (“Google keeps stopping”) while trying to search.
Opening the Google app via the home screen icon causes the crash. You see the app loading for a while before returning to the home screen. Google Search Bar widget shows your past queries before crashing.
The Pixel Launcher search bar continues to work for device searches, but entering a query briefly loads the results page before crashing.
Google Discover (to the left of your home screen) won’t launch, while tapping the voice search microphone will stop the Google app.
After multiple attempts to launch the app, Android shows “Google Keeps stopping” message.
Please mention in the comments which country you are seeing this issue
We are looking at this crashing issue Latest stable (15.35) and Android 15, 14 and (presumably) earlier beta (15.36) versions of the Google Search app. Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy and other Android devices are affected.
Google Assistant (voice commands), Gemini, Google Lens and even Circle to Search will continue to work, while google.com will usually work with Chrome for Android, so that’s your solution. You can also use the Gemini app.
No other sites were affected. So, we believe this is a Google app for Android-specific issue. Google Search — along with all other first-party services like YouTube, Gmail, Drive, Docs — will continue to operate as usual through Saturday evening/Sunday morning.
This is similar to the WebView bug in 2021, but only Google apps are affected. Google App is the power and responsible for many services on Android.
Google stops working/crashes
As of this evening there is no clear solution, however google.com Still works in Chrome and other mobile browsers.
Older versions of Google apps are also affected, so you can’t uninstall App Info > Updates (causing other issues) and everything will work again.
