More images of the upcoming Meta Avatars graphics overhaul have surfaced.
VR Enthusiast Luna When trying to edit their avatar in the Meta Horizon mobile app, many people see a popup with three slides that reads “Landing Soon”. UploadVR has tested this and can confirm that the popup appears.
In July, Luna was discovered being modified by some Meta employees, whose Horizon profiles showed a completely different avatar style to the current Meta avatars.
The overhaul was first announced two years ago at MetaConnect 2022 with a pre-rendered mockup by Mark Zuckerberg. At the time he said a restructuring was coming in 2023, but that apparently hasn’t materialized.
Last year saw meta avatars get a significant update in Legs, Horizon Home and Horizon Worlds, which were previously widely derided for only adding an upper body.
An SDK for third-party apps got calls in December, but they’re not currently animated, so developers have to implement this manually, a difficult task no one has yet undertaken.
Meta will officially announce the new modified avatars at Connect 2024 on Wednesday and Thursday.
